Have You or a Loved One Experienced a Trauma?
After a trauma, you may wonder if treatment is right for you.
You may think,
"If I can just make myself not think about it or just not feel so much, I'll be okay."
But, you still suffer with the pain and
you isolate yourself from people and activities you used to enjoy.
You may tell yourself,
"I've always managed my own feelings in the past. I should handle this myself."
But, you start to feel something is wrong with you because you can't handle it. And, your productivity and relationships suffer.
You may not want to find out if you have PTSD because it sounds too serious.
What if it means nothing can be done for you?
So, you think, "What's the point?"
If you or a loved one have any of these concerns, I understand.
Traumas turn our lives upside down
and make it difficult to find a way to put it right again.
After a trauma, it is normal to have symptoms such as
nightmares, emotional upsets, and upsetting memories.
If, however, you still have trauma symptoms after 3 to 6 months,
then it is important for you to receive treatment.
At this point the symptoms will not go away on their own.
Today's empirically based psychotherapy treatments
have been very effective for many people.
They can decrease or eliminate your PTSD symptoms.
PTSD is no longer considered a lifelong disorder, if you receive treatment.
You may have arrived at this site for yourself or for a loved one.
In either case, it's a huge step forward.
I encourage you to take the next step and
call me at 808-778-5755 to set up an appointment.
At this appointment, we can discuss any questions you have,
assess for PTSD or other trauma reactions, and discuss a treatment plan.
I will work with you to help you choose the next best steps for you to take.
More Information on Trauma & PTSD
Traumatic events occur in any number of ways (combat, sexual assault, accidents, violence, illness, childhood abuse, and many others). Although some people recover from these events on their own, many do not and need treatment from professionals to help their recovery. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a common disorder that people suffer when they are not able to recover from a traumatic event.
Since 2007, I have worked with veterans and active duty service members who have been impacted by traumatic events from combat, military sexual trauma (MST), extreme hazing, major accidents and other traumatic events. My practice welcomes active duty service members, National Guard, Reservists, and veterans. TRICARE insurance is accepted as well as VA Patient Centered Community Care and Veterans Choice TriWest.
PTSD Symptoms
You should receive an assessment for PTSD if you have been suffering from any of the following symptoms for more than 1 month:
PTSD is best treated with empirically-based treatments. Other problems people may develop after a traumatic event, with or without PTSD, include depression, anxiety, panic attacks, substance abuse, social phobia, insomnia, anger management problems, relationship problems and moral injury. We can work together on a treatment plan that is best suited for your particular needs.
I work with individuals in a culturally sensitive manner and use empirically-based treatments to help each individual live a fulfilling life. I have a deep respect for each person’s history, accomplishments, and desires. I work with each person to help expand his or her capabilities and to achieve his or her life goals.
